Hi folks!

Anyone any good with sat-nav units? I have the Ford Advanced sat-nav unit inbuilt into my MK2.5 and basically the map says i'm in a different location to where I actually am in real time. When I go to use the sat-nav itself, there is a message saying no GPS :( Does anyone have any idea on how this could have happened and how I go about rectifying it?

I have tried restoring my factory settings but that hasn't helped. It won't calibrate either. I have also tried cleaning the SD Card but still no success. Ford say they will have to remove the unit, etc, to take a proper look at it but just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Many thanks for any help you can give.

Cheers,

Mark

I suppose the aerial may have come out from the back of the unit so might be worth while pulling it out and taking a look for yourself.

Is there a different aerial base on the roof to the standard one? I have the touch-screen satnav unit in the pre-facelift MKII, but have not had this unfortunate problem.

I'd let Ford sort it out under warranty - don't let them blow you off with it being 'audio equipment' if it's over a year old either, especially if it's like mine below and integrates heater, fan and aircon controls etc.

Thanks for the help folks!

My unit is different to the one shown above and it doesn't integrate heating, air con, etc. Everything is fine in terms of audio, etc. I reset the factory settings and everything reset except the sat-nav. Ford can do it under warranty like you say. I just hope it oesn't come back with any other problems :|

Have you tried calibrating the GPS in an open area away from built up areas? We used to advise customers to try that in a field or an empty car park when I worked for Palm technical support. They used to do bluetooth gps receivers for their phones. Buildings can upset the signal to the gps unit in the car.

Any harm to ask where the unit thinks it is ? As the vw units suffer from a problem where they think they are back in germany

been reading a few forums and a guy with a mondeo had exact same problem,he took his system out of centre console and fixed it to a portable £5 gps aerial and it worked,so its possibly an aerial/antenna issue.I'm ringing Ford garage in morn to put this to them, also if its the antenna that has failed this surely is still covered by manufacturers warranty(it expired today, but problem began last week) update: sorry i did that thing of sorting problem and not telling how it went. After arguing with the garage that it could be an antenna issue ,I rang ford and they put me through to their customer service dept who argued that the antenna isnt covered by warranty because its audio equipment,I argued that my blaupunkt sat nav unit was a factory fitted extra when car was new and so was covered as the antenna is actually not standard ,its part of the package because it contains the gps reciever, they agreed and reimbursed my £74 and arranged with garage to replace the antenna/gps receiver.problem solved and no further issues.

Hello there. I know that my post here is too late and I do apologize for that. The topic here caught my attention. I want to thank you for this information. I'm pretty sure that I can possibly use this as my future reference if I will encounter some problem. So far I don't have issues with antenna. thanks
